A portrait of Patty Brennan taken while examining swan genitalia. As Brennan says "if you look at enough bird cloacas, this is bound to happen." The photo was taken by her daughter Morgan who was absolutely horrified that her mother could be smiling with poop on her face. Brennan studies the evolutionary consequences of interactions between behavior, morphology and the environment. Some of her work on sexual conflict in duck genitalia has made headlines.
